Liposuction: It’s For More Than Just Your Stomach Fat!}

Submitted by: Beth Ortiz

Let’s face it, we all have a couple of pounds that we’d like to lose. As a person gets older, their metabolism slows down, and we put on pounds as a result. Remember, it gets even harder to keep the weight off if all you do is sit behind a desk and only move to go get lunch!

Many people admit that they’re not really the kind to go exercise the weight off, so they just jump right on ahead to the liposuction procedure. You’ve probably heard a lot about liposuction in the media when reading about celebrities who’s had it, and who should get it. Well, those are actually two categories that can apply to one or the other of the human population.

Fat tends to collect in certain areas of the body when people eat lots of food that contains (gasp!) things like saturated fats. The body cannot process these kinds of fats, so the fat simply moves to certain areas of the body. That’s what causes things like that dreaded cellulite.

Liposuction uses small metal tubes, inserted into the fat layer that has formed under the skin, and in conjunction with a suction pump, literally sucks out the fat. The result is a figure that is instantly sleeker. In fact, for people who are especially large, pounds and pounds can be sucked out during just one procedure!

However, while the tummy is probably the most popular area for liposuction, there are lots of other areas in which this procedure can be done. For example, the second most popular area would be the thighs, because who wouldn’t want to be able to have nice cellulite-free thighs?

What other areas can benefit from this kind of procedure? The ankles and legs, the back (generally this is just for women), the buttocks, and for men the flank and the breasts. Basically, wherever fat collects, it can probably be sucked out.

The thing to remember about this procedure is that there are and unfortunate amount of surgeons who treat this procedure more recklessly than they should. They feel that they should suck out as much fat as possible and as quickly as possible. Although it was previously mentioned that pounds of fat might be removed during just one procedure, it’s important to note that that’s only for extreme cases. Otherwise, it’s too dangerous to take out too much fat at once.

Also, something else that you need to protect yourself against is falling for an advertisement. Some surgeons who have lots of money will commission lots of different advertisements promising to be the absolute best at what they do. They show lots of pictures in these advertisements as well, but make sure that you exercise caution and acknowledge the fact that the photos could have been altered.

So, before you decide to have surgery, save yourself some money by first cutting back on your fat intake. You can slowly start getting fit by doing something as simple as taking a ten-minute walk each day. Choose this surgical procedure carefully.
